Dynamic arm support ‘TOP’

Dynamic arm support ‘TOP’ is probably FOCAL’s most renowned arm support product. Designed in the ‘90’s, it has been under constant development and several versions of this very functional and durable product are now available. ‘TOP’ is the actual forearm component that consists of weight bearing extension parts with axes and an arm splint. ‘TOP’ is a dynamic armrest which supports the underside of the arm and allows it to be moved horizontally. Through the application of a number of different axes, this dynamic arm support incorporates a unique mechanism for optimum positioning and extended working radius. The ‘TOP’ can be used for a whole range of everyday activities e.g. for typing, household chores and work- related activities. Its functional qualities have been proven time and time again.

The ‘HELP’ component is an additional component that is mounted between the base of the arm support and the ‘TOP”. This module enables the forearm to be moved vertically. In its basic version the ‘HELP’ component assists vertical arm movements with the aid of an individually adjustable, pre-tensed rubber. By allowing the arm to be moved vertically, the hand can be positioned at different heights within a large movement envelope. Assistance against gravity facilitates important movements like going to the mouth area, the face or the user’s hair. Hence the ‘TOP’ with the ‘HELP’ module is an ideal eating and drinking and daily life aid for persons with very limited but available arm and hand functions.

The ‘HELP’ component is also available in an electric version. This version is commonly used by persons with almost no remaining possibilities to lift their arm. It is operated through a small push button and the force used is individually adaptable.

Dynamic arm support ‘TOP’ is usually mounted on a wheelchair, a working chair or on a carriage. It can be applied on one or both arms of the user, depending on his or her physical abilities and requirements.

Also electric versions are available.
